#23 Is this really the end? Or just the beginning...

What were your favorite discoveries or exercises on this learning journey?
How has this program assisted or affected your lifelong learning goals?
Were there any take-aways or unexpected outcomes from this program that surprised you?
What ideas do you have for using these technologies at Harris County Public Library?
What else do you want to learn about? What other web 2.0 applications are you interested in?

Ask me in person. I am a very slow typist and it would take a week to tell you how much I have learned and enjoyed this eJourney.

It took me a while to get into it, but in the end it was fantastic.

Favorites: The "Library" Elf , Web-based Apps, RSS.
Surprises: YouTube and Podcasting.

#22 Downloadable Media

I have been using our HCPL's eBranch almost since its inception and have thoroughly enjoyed it.

Through this exercise I discovered some classic Mexican cinema gems.

#20 Discover YouTube and other video sharing sites

It took me a long time to get through this. I thought that YouTube was only for young people.

I learned that you have to be careful what you ask, you might just get it.

It took me a long time because I was having so much fun. I even connected with friends from high school and my Navy days.

My favorites turned out to be videos taken in the town where I was born. I was 14 when I left Izalco, El Salvador, Central America.

I got a lump in my throat and a tear in my eye watching these videos.

This was my Favorite.

Jícaras tristes - #19 Web-based Apps

Jícaras tristes

La única obra poética de Alfredo Espino esconde en su interior la pasión y la tristeza por la vida de un hombre que supo mirar el alma de los salvadoreños a través de las señales que regala la naturaleza a los libres y limpios del alma.

I can write in Spanish by using the character map available with the Windows® operating system

I have created a simple chart containing the most comon characters.

#18 Social Networking: Making friends in the comfort of your own home

I am not too enthused about online social networking. I have accounts with Yahoo! 360° as TuxVic and MySpace.com as Victor D. I subscribed to surprise the grandchildren. They are now telling their friends that their VERY OLD grandfather has accounts in MySpace and YouTube. I am not sure whether they are bragging or looking for sympathy.

#17 Blog About Technology

For me, today's technology craze is a two edge sword. On one side we have great advances in medicine, research, communications, etc.; on the other side the same benefits have contributed to the decay of cultures, social fiber. It seems to me that we have more time to do more and we end up doing less with our families.

#16 So what's in a wiki?

I liked the video, I actually started to feel sorry for poor Marsha.

Not too excited about wikis. I suppose that it might have great uses for busy people in the business world.

I have tried them before with family and friends. We still prefer the old coffee shop approach. I guess that my age is showing.

#15 On Library 2.0 & Web 2.0

I read all of the perspectives on Library 2.0 from the list. They are all very interesting, however; I found A ripple effect, which is not on the list, most fascinating.

Week 4: #9 Finding Feeds, Week 1: #2 Lifelong Learning - Motivate Yourself

Subscribed to PubMed: Lupus using the Bloglines search tool.

I have Lupus.

I also reviewed the lifelong learning presentation from #2 Lifelong Learning - Motivate Yourself. The program is beginning to make sense once I started to see it as a learning experience rather than homework.

#4 Online Safety and Sharing

I am very much aware of internet safety issues. Various organisations such as Girls Scouts have an Internet Safety Pledge form that girls and parents sign as part of earning their badges or patches. Ntsmartz.org has tutorials for parents, educators, law enforcement, teens, and kids.

The Flickr Connection

This the Volcan de Izalco. I was born at the foothills of this beautiful volcano. At night, we could see the most splendid fireworks display. Because of its altitude and its proximity to the sea it became known to sailors as El Faro del Pacíico, The Lighthouse of the Pacific.

This volcano is characterized by its permanent activity, from its birth in 1770, almost 200 years after Christopher Columbus reached the new world, to the end of its eruptive period in 1966. It is currently dormant

How many lives per barrel?

Hi,

Today I feel a little philosophical.

Socrates was right, there is a lot that we do not know. But what about the things that we DO know? Take war for instance. War is a business orchestrated by a few greedy, arrogant, psychopaths; using the blood of the most vulnerable, the poor, the ignorant (why are education and health at the bottom of our legislative priorities? More about my felling on that subject in the near future), and perpetuated by false and misleading hopes and side shows.

It is not the stupidity but the ignorance of the masses that empowers those who have learned something from history: War = BIG Profits for the ones in power, for the ones that do not have to fight it.
